In August, the James Beard Foundation launched our industry-facing website, OpenForGood.com, as a way to a way to bring together all of the resources the Beard Foundation and other organizations have been collecting on one easy-to-use platform.

In addition to these resources, OpenForGood.com also features Mentorship presented by KitchenAid. This portal is designed to help aspiring culinary professionals easily find and request mentors based on skill, geographic location, or demographic.

Here’s how to use it:

  1. Head to openforgood.com/mentorship and create an account.
  2. Use the filters to identify the skills you need assistance with.
  3. Send a mentor request using the “Request this Mentor” button and be sure to include contact information.
  4. Build your own mentorship relationship!

In order for a mentorship relationship to work, clear expectations on timing and goals should be indicated before any ongoing communications begin. Please review our Code of Conduct for some tips and guidelines on how to get the most out of your mentorship.

If you are not interested in a mentorship relationship but still want guidance on a specific issue, you can head to the Forum at openforgood.com/forum, which is a great place to crowd-source ideas or share news and information.

Don’t miss the chance to use this platform and connect with the incredible mentors who have made themselves available to emerging talent like you.
If you have any questions about the mentorship portal, email erothkrug@jamesbeard.org or mstorms@jamesbeard.org.
